  A cause de la guerre, Stormy Weather n'est sorti en France qu'en juillet 1946, soit 3 ans après les Etats-Unis. Entre les deux, le jazz avait déjà bien changé : Fats était mort et Cab commençait déjà largement à peiner pour faire vivre son big band. French adaptation of “The Jumpin' Jive”: Hep! Hep!... Help!

Qu'il est difficile d'adapter en français des textes de standards de jazz. Beaucoup s'y sont frottés et s'y sont piqués ! Mais quand il s'agit d'adapter en français le jive obscur et incohérent de Cab Calloway, cela relève du défi majeur de tout traducteur ! “Minnie the Moocher” by Carlos

  Bon. Pour tout vous avouer, il y a parfois des moments délicats lorsque l'on fait un peu de recherche autour de Cab Calloway. L'une de mes dernières épreuves a été de découvrir que le chanteur français Carlos (1943-2008) avait adapté à sa manière la chanson Minnie The Moocher sous le titre "Idého", paru dans l'album Yvan-Chrisostome (1991). May 1958: Cab Calloway at the Olympia in Paris

When Cab Calloway began his series of galas May 22, 1958 at the Olympia in Paris, it has been a few years since he had performed in France. The first time was in 1934 during his European tour of the Cotton Club, then a few weeks at the Paris Empire Theatre in Porgy and Bess in 1953. There is some documentation on this series of concerts in Paris during the "events" in Algeria whose repercussions in France caused riots in the capital.
