Le 3 mars 1931, en tout début d'après-midi, Cab Calloway pénétrait dans le studio 2 Brunswick à New York sur la 36e rue. Il savait qu'il allait enregistrer un morceau important puisque depuis quelque temps déjà au Cotton Club, chaque fois qu'il chantait cette chanson, le public la reprenait en coeur.

NAISSANCE de CAB CALLOWAY
Né le jour de Noël 1907, à Rochester, dans l'état de New York, Cab y est resté jusqu’à l’âge de 10 ans avec sa mère, enseignante, et son père, gestionnaire de bien immobiliers.

Après avoir eu une grave attaque cérébrale le 12 juin 1994, Cab CALLOWAY dut définitivement arrêter la scène. Il sortit de l'hôpital début juillet pour se reposer dans une maison médicalisée à Cokesbury Village, une communauté de retraité à Hosckessin (Delaware). Il décède quelque cinq mois plus tard des suites d'une pneumonie.
