RHYTH-MANIA au Cotton Club (décembre 1931)
Deuxième contribution d’Harold Arlen et Ted Koelhler aux revues du Cotton Club, Rhythm-Mania contient quelques succès parmi lesquels Between The Devil and The Deep Blue Sea, la marche I Love a Parade et naturellement Kickin’ The Gong Around.
Devant le succès de la chanson I Love a Parade, les revues suivantes furent toutes appelées «Cotton Club Parade».

Billy ECKSTINE lancé grâce à Cab


C’est en 1930 que sa carrière a débuté. A 16 ans, encore au collège à Washington DC, Billy ECKSTINE participe à un concours amateur et remporte le premier prix en imitant… Cab Calloway, of course ! Eckstine se souvient encore qu’à l’époque, « tout le monde imitait Calloway. Alors, moi aussi, je l’ai fait. »

Vous n'avez pas encore lu la première biographie de Cab CALLOWAY ? C’est normal : elle ne paraîtra que fin 2007 pour le centenaire du roi du Hi-de-Ho !

Les Fantômes de Harlem (1997) - 1re partie
Un livre unique basé sur les interviews des derniers survivants du Harlem de la grande époque. Hank O’Neal accompagne toutes ses interviews de photos qu’il a prises lui-même de ces vieux roublards du jazz dans leur intérieur. C’est un livre intimiste et généreux à l’image de Milton Hinton, fidèle contrebassiste de Cab notamment, qui donne une longue interview. Voici la première d'une large série de notes consacrées aux « Fantômes de Harlem », tant l’ouvrage est riche en informations exclusives sur Cab, ses musiciens et le jazz de cette époque. Sujet d'aujourd'hui : les raison du déclin de Harlem.

Elle en aura entendu des vertes et des pas mûres la petite Minnie ! Parmi toutes les adaptations (auxquelles nous consacrerons régulièrement des notes !), il y a celle faite par le Reggae Philarmonic Orchestra en 1988. Parue en album, elle a même eu droit à un maxi-single avec 2 versions. Extrait exclusif !

Minnie The Moocher dans l'aviation britannique
Sacrée Minnie ! Elle en a fait tourner des têtes... Jusqu'à celles d'aviateurs britanniques pendant la seconde guerre mondiale. Vous avez en effet sous les yeux la photo d'un bombardier B17 baptisé en l'honneur de l'égérie de Cab.
